It is estimated that for every 1 death by suicide, there are 30 suicide attempts. The vast majority of people who survive an attempt do NOT later die by suicide, but go on to live meaningful lives.
Many, but not all, suicide attempts result in receiving treatment via psychiatric hospitalization and/or outpatient treatment. While some survivors of suicide attempt also require physical/medical care due to injury, others may have survived without anyone ever knowing they attempted.
A common factor, however, is that due to stigma, shame, guilt, and often fear of discrimination, suicide attempts are frequently kept secret. This secrecy can lead to feelings of isolation, and make it difficult to find support.
All survivors of suicide attempt, including aborted and interrupted attempts, are welcome at our support group. We are a welcoming and diverse group, and we are grateful you are here. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
